Sounds real clean and quiet! I got 24 bit to work with 96K studio on my Magix (Audacity can go higher even 32 bit float but errors & huge files!) but double albums go to pure static on side 4 (doesn't catch it) so I record only one album maximum at a time for my Windows 7 new PC. I think my secret for earlier 9000 rips at blog was using Magix 3.0 to record and having the software boost set DURING RECORDING at 0.8 (very low just to get the software algorhythm for boost) then turning down the line-in to 29% to get lowest surface noise/treble turds out of the recording part. Audacity has volume adjust but a different algorhythm in software--my Stanton pre-amp also use their own adder to sound. What I did was turn up the new Audacity volume near 80% which made me turn down the pre-amp volume to then lower the surface noise more but not quite the same booming sound I had. I have the line-in volume for it set to now 46% as any highere has no effect on sound--generally a low signal coming from phono. But I do like the new settings. I just make sure preamp volume is low to just touch the red and jacked up high to clip the higher frequencies that want to be heard like some of the waveforms from CD you show. Listening to Elastic Band now and sounds very good and super clean! I'm afraid to say it but I think all my old rips were at 16 bit but maybe not I can't remember but software was limited to it so surprised that I can now get 24 with same 3.0 (last on internet unopened on ebay the rest are that bootleg version which I was using last several years when I lost my original 3.0 disc). I am very quick cutting out needle drops on Magix once I import the WAV from Audacity. They said something in Audacity tutorial on youtube that you should cut only at zero crossing but I don't have time for it. Hoping all the rhythm interruptions which can happen iwth my cuts are ONLY at spots with large data loss from skips or big long pops and convinced they are not from software conversions not 'catching up'. Thanks for your files!!!
ResponderExcluirI didn't understand this part: but double albums go to pure static on side 4 (doesn't catch it)
ExcluirI don't understand much anyway but I'll tell you how I do it:
1) I record with Audacity 32 bit float but I don't know why ... /48,000 and I keep a level of about -6 -8, then I normalize it to 0.
2) I clean with Sound Forge which is the same as Magix the background noise with -12 dB
3) I clean, not always, with Sound Forge vinyl good condition but if there are wind instruments or hoarse voices like Van Morrison, Eric Burdon etc. I lower it to 40 instead of 60
4) with Audacity I clean the clicks at the beginning of the side, between the tracks and at the end.
5) I normalize to 0
6) I listen with headphones and if there are other clicks I clean them with Audacity.
7) I make the tracks with Audacity
8) maybe I do something wrong but I'm fine with it!
The waveform turned into static with no sound. It could have occured during recording into Audacity from PC limitation perhaps or during import to Magix since Magix not made for 24 bit and got software data overload because 24 bit is more file size than 16 bit.
ExcluirThe minus dB and zero dB is foreign to me. When I was a child with making cassette tapes of vinyl albums for my walkman I read somewhere to set levels so that 'the red zone' flickers barely. I also have normalization feature in MAGIX for waveforms already recorded to jack it up to normal -such as from youtube. I see no need for it if the pre-amp and PC line in volume make it just touch the red zone. Yes the human ears I'm told cannot hear more than 44.1 kHz but all say to use at least 48 kHz--using 96kHz each channel may also be the cause of overload. Yes, I like the Audacity cleaning feature but Magix has the same software function but does not capture all so I listen twice to bad vinyl & cut out remains by hand (only on sustained notes and not quick rhythm is hard to do). I get out of Audacity as soon as I record it because IMO it is an idiot design backwards from Magix and seemingly much slower to use at my 15 vinyl per week conversion rate.
Thanks for feedback (what is your computer line in volume setting and frequency (looks like 48 kHZ must be set there too?)?
I set it to 16-48 because they advised me to do so, but in my opinion 16-44 is fine. Then there are many who say they feel the difference with larger formats, but I wish they were here with me to test them...
ExcluirThe maniacs from Rutracker swear that they can hear 32/384 and 1/5.6 DSD. Well, at least you don't have to download 200 MB png pics...
ExcluirAs for filters, aren't modern AI ones better? It's worth trying once, but I honestly don't know which ones...
Excluiri check rawkin' dog and your were right, I use -12 to -8 dB like you. That is a wide range 16-48 on line in. I set the 29 level using headphones in the early days so that all the background static noise would be silenced. I haven't noticed it though at 45 where I'm at now--I'm sure it increases above 50 or so like I was checking since it gets no louder only fuzzier. Thanks for your feedback! Yes the loud static came again this week on a long 60 minute vinyl of piano music near end of second side. I just had to create 2 WAV's instead of one and will keep making one WAV per normal length album. I know I am pushing things with 24 bit but it sounds better and I miss my Magix recording boost but oh well no complaints (I am my worst critic and it took me 2 weeks to agree with myself that new settings were good going forward). Thanks again!!!
ExcluirThanks to you! I use -12dB because I also noticed that on some vinyls when the song ends the sound seems like an old cassette. 2 more answers below because Blogger is stupid .
ExcluirThat's why I love audacity, the waveform shows perfectly what is compressed!! I might d/l your album as I think I only have a c.d rip. Thanks RD.
ResponderExcluirVery true Hotroder Audacity is very explanatory!
ExcluirI guarantee it is worth the download.
Only had a C.D. of the album and your vinyl show excellent dynamic range, fantastico!!
ResponderExcluirThanks! I downloaded the 1992 Pseudonym CD and it didn't sound very good but it's a strange label because I have CDs and I also downloaded some and it alternates between great and poor products but it may depend on the quality of the original recording, since many of them were bands that weren't rolling in gold...
ExcluirThere's another nutcase out there... that does great rips, but does scans of over 1GB, and a 2.56GB TIFF gatefold...
ResponderExcluirYeah, after conversion to 16/44.1 their rips are reduced by more than 20 times. What prevents them from putting such a version in a folder for less sophisticated audiophiles. It wouldn't affect the torrent size at all, as the album would weigh less than one Tif picture. They could call the folder ironically ‘samples’, that would be fine with me.
ExcluirHi Serge, furthermore, they often don't make tracks and you go crazy converting them.
ExcluirI don't know, I stay away from A.I.
ResponderExcluirI'm not good at it either, but the processed vinyls I've heard are quite something!
ExcluirGood to know, thanks!
ExcluirI won't mention names, but I know the nutcase you're talking about. I remember d/l the bloody huge file size of the cover, but the computer was taking 2 to 3 minutes to open it. I was thinking, this is bullshit, I can't even open it on the computer, what's the use? I deleted it and I said sorry to my pc.
ResponderExcluirPoor computers, now I save the images from that blog from the description of the post...
