ENGLISH:
Et Cetera (not to confuse with the French progressive band of the same name) was one of the projects led by the renowned German pianist Wolfgang Dauner, active in the German jazz scene since the early 1960s and which had already formed his own trios, quartets and quintets. For this mega project, Dauner was fully supported by a crew of outstanding musicians, beginning from the guitarrist Sigi Schwab, who used a wide range of string instruments and who, besides having supported Dauner in other projects, was also an Embryo member, playing his role on 'Father Son And Holy Ghosts' and 'Rocksession' albums. There was also the bassist Eberhard Weber, already active on the jazz scene and which gained more credibility releasing 'The Colours Of Chloë', his debut album. The US drummer Fred Braceful was called in for being a Dauner's old friend - as well as Roland Wittich - who after Et Cetera disbanded, joined Exmagma, another experimental jazz-fusion band.

Et Cetera' sound was enriched by a huge range of instruments and by far it was something completely different from any other one derived from jazz, if for everybody, Et Cetera was really into any jazz tides. Therefore, by the time this album was released, the band quickly built a following by the "krautrock" audience. And, undoubtely, one of the greatest Wolfgang Dauner's projects ever made.

  1. Et Cetera was a synonym (or alias), which used Wolfgang Dauner in the early 70s for his band. Dauner, born in 1935 in Stuttgart, is still one of the most popular and renowned German jazz musician. After graduating from the Academy of Music in Stuttgart (in technical trumpet) he founded in 1963 with bassist Eberhard Weber and American percussionist Fred Braceful the Wolfgang Dauner Trio. This became the core of the band, the end of the decade and in the early 70s as Wolfgang Dauner Quintet, Wolfgang Dauner Group or just record should occur and Et Cetera.

During this time, Dauner turned his ever-changing musicians (only Weber and Braceful were almost always present), based on a jazzy base, popular, contemporary music genres (rock, psychedelia, pop), built at the same time also an avant-garde and free improvisations in his plays. Under the name Et Cetera played Dauner three albums: "Et Cetera" (1971), "Knirsch" (1972) und "Live" (1973).

Dauner is still very active as a musician and composer. Eberhard Weber began in 1973 with his album "The Colours of Chloe" a very successful solo career. Fred Braceful founded in 1973 with Andy Goldner and Thomas Balluf the formation Exmagma belonged briefly to Moira and was then active until the 90s as a composer and jazz musician. He died in March 1993.

As "Et Cetera" in 1971 appeared on the jazz label Global Records, the LP no evidence of the musicians involved were found. That was intentional. Namely potential buyers have discovered in the cast list the name of Wolfgang Dauner, most would probably have concluded that it is another pure jazz album in the hands held, for which Dauner formation was until now mainly known. As it reached the album that you now like it or not listen, a much larger group of buyers. "Et Cetera" (sometimes titled "Lady Blue" found in discographies) was too small bestsellers (as it is at least in the booklet of the Long-Hair-CD reissues to read)

  2. When you hear the disc today, one can only wonder why, but the presented here blend of rock, jazz, psychedelia and enriched with Arab and Indian influences, very adventurous and radical.

Building on diverse Dauner, usually electronically distorted keys sounds unfolds on "Et Cetera" a pretty-ass trip through tangled and soundscapes. Weber's bass instruments and the doubly occupied rhythm section driving the whole thing forward powerfully and masterfully. This is rage Sigi Schwab and Dauner from all sorts of other instruments of guitars, ring modulators, various flutes, a trumpet and a cargo of exotic, etc. also Indian and Arabic sound generator. Now and then, for some strange, spoken or sung vocal deposits Bracefuls it.

The result is a herbal-psychedelic experimental jazz-rock with world music atmosphere, pretty much everything, which was seen in 1971 at the Rock area as unusual, crazy, exotic and avant-garde in a pot and throws provided with a very good shot of jazz mixed homogeneously. If embryo, Amon Düül II and Dzyan had organized at the beginning of the 70s a wild jam session, probably something like this would come of it. Or no, a haphazard jam session that is offered here in any case. Creative, thoughtful and virtuosic music, the five musicians together and produce very unusual, exotic-colored rock numbers, where you usually also because of the strong percussion department, has trouble sitting still.

Amazingly, "Et Cetera" until the fall of 2008 released on CD again. The CD reissue of Long Hair Music includes three extensive bonus tracks that probably (in the otherwise very detailed, the careers of the participants illuminated Beihefttext are not finding relevant information) are from the same session as the regular album tracks. The three pieces offer the same level like material that closely matches the rest of the album in every way. On the contrary! The mysterious floating "Tau Ceti" and the sloping, powerful drifting "Kabul" are among the highlights of the disc. Almost, one might speculate that at that time, a double album was planned, but was never realized.

    Thx micose!
