ENGLISH:
Grobschnitt was one of the few 70s German bands which managed to get some visible recognizement and consequently they could also stay active for about 20 years. In despite of having emerged from the krautrock scene, Grobschnitt is considered as a symphonic progressive band, although it has some psychedelic and experimental elements, and also unfairly considered as German clone of Yes.
Already on their first album - which was one of the very first releases by legendary Brain Records label - the band included two suites basically composed in the same way of traditional progressive symphonic.
Totally recommended and as good as English and Italian groups.

Their history can be traced back as far as 1966, to a band named Crew, of which Stefan "Wildschwein" Daneliak (vocals, guitar), Joachim "Eroc" Ehrig (drums, percussion) and Gerd Otto "Lupo" Kuhn (guitars, vocals) were members. Some recordings from this time are featured on Eroc's third solo album. With additional members Axel "Felix" Harlos (drums), Bernhard "Bar" Uhlemann (bass, flute, percussion) and Hermann "Quicksilber" Quetting (keyboards) they christened themselves Grobschnitt in early 1970. Their self-titled first album was The four tracks typical progressive rock with complex arrangements, drawing some influences from classical music. Eroc's ethereal electronic effects and the crazy humour revealed in places gave them some distinction. The long instrumental sections were dominated by Lupo's varied guitar play. Neither critics nor buyers found this album very tempting at the time. Nevertheless, it's now a highly regarded album with memorable tracks such as "Wonderful Music" (3:03) and "Symphony" (13:44).
ResponderExcluirThe first album of GROBSCHNITT was recorded in spring 1972 by Lupo, wild boar, Eroc, Felix, Baer and mercury in the Windrose Studio in Hamburg. As a "guest musician" in a string quartet of the Hamburg State Opera immortalized on the album.
The original band name Elias chapel was rough cut with the appearance of this plate at the urging of the Brain label (founded in 1971 as a sub-label of Metronome) in the shorter and therefore more memorable name changed GROBSCHNITT. As community composition appears on the album but yet the name Elias rough cut.
Produced the album by Frank Miller (guitarist with the Rattles).
Was sound engineer Conny Plank.
The cover was designed Günter Blum (assigned by Metronome, without the music you've heard ...).
The titles are in the music publishing and Rudi Slezak relocated from the Metronome GmbH released on disc. The serial number is: 1008. From 1972 to 1974, the album with a gatefold sleeve and the green label has been released. This first pressing on the label bears the signature metronome. From 1974 to 1976, the album was recorded on a modified label (it lacks the signature metronome and the color is slightly lighter) published. The green label was replaced in 1976 by a multi-color label with the primary colors of yellow / orange, while retaining the original serial number. In Germany, the LP is then released by the end of 1979 with the multi-color label. Brain has published in 1977 in collaboration with another version Teichiku Records Japan. The cover is identical to the version released in Germany, however, is on the front (above right), the Brain label with the serial number shown (see photo). This version was only released in Japan with the Japan Brain Yellow Label. The serial number is: UXP-732-EB
The final pressure was from 1980 to the turn of Brain revised black label with silver writing and a simple cover.
The serial number is: 0060.401
The Great German krautrock's Grobschnitt , their debut album is krautrock lovers. Remastered from the original studio tapes by their drummer Eroc. Features all four original tracks including the four part suite 'Symphony' & the great 'Sun Trip', with spoken german and a medley of great original songs. Wonderful dual guitar work and fascinating arrangement. The diversity of musical influence appear here. The best cuts: Wonderful Music, a gentle playful tune, with flute and many more of the typical krautrock sounds a totally unbelievable blend of rock show, theatre and pantomime with tasteless costumes, gags, wit, weird make up and general lunacy. The first half is more playful while the second side is more tight and spacy.
In 1998, the album as a CD version (remastered original studio tapes by EROC) is published by Polymedia Marketing Group in collaboration with Repertoire Records. The serial number is: PMS7093-WP.
This Reissue contains of course the original cover art.
Yours,
Adam
