The Allman Brothers Band - Live at The Atlanta International Pop Festival (1970 us great classic southern rock, 2CD - FLAC)

Desfrutem!

The 1970 Atlanta International Pop Festival was one of the first big rock festivals of the decade, beating out the Isle of Wight by over a month.

It was also home turf for the Allman Brothers, who were invited to play the opening and closing sets of the three-day event.

In retrospect, it's interesting to note how--despite their penchant for extended jams--the Allmans were somewhat at odds with the flower-child ethic of the day; after the MC delivers a classic hippie/stoner intro, the tough, raw opening strains of "Statesboro Blues" come off as delightfully incongruous.

Nevertheless, the band's improvisational blues-rock majesty made them a crowd-pleaser. It's easy to see why; the level of energy (and musicianship) here equals, if not surpasses their legendary live Fillmore East recordings from the following year, which showcase much of the same material.

Dickey Betts and Duane Allman's guitars play ably against Greg Allman's thick organ voicings and the percolating polyrhythms of drummers Butch Trucks and J. Johnny Johnson.

Between-song announcements of a rain delay and the opening of the gates to non-paying fans reinforce the Woodstock-era vibe, making this two-disc set effective as both a musical and historical document.

Line-up / musicians:

*Gregg Allman (vocals, Hammond B-3 organ, keyboards)
*Berry Oakley (vocals, bass)
*Duane Allman, Dickie Betts (guitar)
*Thom Doucette (harmonica)
*Butch Trucks, J. Johnny Johnson (drums, percussion).
*Additional personnel: Johnny Winter (guitar).

  3. "The Allman Brothers Band were and still are one of the most exciting live bands ever to hit the stage. They became road warriors with a vengeance and left devoted fans wherever they went…a band that reflects so many sentiments about music: originality, a determination not to be confined musically or stylistically, but instead to forge your own way and make music that moves soul & heart.
Two famous LIVE shows of the legendary American band The Allman Brothers Band, International Pop Festival, which took place on 3 and 5 July 1970, on a weekend devoted to the Independence Day celebrations. All recordings have improved sound, and the publishing of the book complements notkami about the band and the same performances. Concerts took place shortly before that, as The Allman Brothers Band entered the studio to record a second material, "Idlewild South". July 3 band opened the festival, playing before thousands of fans . Two days later, the concert of The Allman Brothers Band admired already half a million people. Sounded wonderful, "Statesboro Blues," "Dreams," "Whipping Post", "Mountain Jam" [on the second disc] (in this track appears in Johnny Winter hospitable contribution) and cover - song... Willy Dixon "Hoochie Coochie Man."

For fans of The Allman Brothers Band in the first period of activity item is absolutely mandatory!
    Thanks Nell,
