This great masterpiece was reissued in 2007 in the Hollywood Holiday Revisited compilation, which I strongly advise against for fans of the sound of vinyl, which also includes the 1984 album Drifters (coming soon on the blog) and 3 bonuses that you can find here: https:// bordeldorock.blogspot.com/2023/10/true-west-tv-western-1983-studio.html

I noticed that in private torrents there is a guy called XXXXXXXXXXX who has many hard-to-find rock and disco/funk vinyls that rips albums, including Hand Of Fate by True Wesr, compressing them so that they sound like of CDs for deaf people... Furthermore, it is making proselytes, so if you download what should look like vinyl you now run the risk of taking it up the ass...
Even days ago I downloaded 14 GB of The Philadelphia Story, 14 LPs, the first 8 sound good, the other 6 seem like compressed CDs that in my opinion no TRUE vinyl lover can listen to.

I'm full of it!

  2. WoW thanks a ton rawkin' dog!!! You really filled in the True West stuff I had started long ago at the DU blog. Thanks to the heads up on crappy rips also! I started out kinda rough using my forehead sweat to clean the vinyl while I was out of work for my 30's but have used same settings since I began--checking it closely with headphones. I had to turn down from Hz signal just touching the red Db zone for effiency on beat up vinyl and sometimes missed it but rarely and rip is only as good as the vinyl with old days of heavy stylus fattening the groove on repeat play. Cheers!

    1. Things get better over time, my 2013 rips with the PC sound card were really poor...

  4. I think vinyl should be ripped for archival reasons rather than trying to improve sound. Sure, take out the clicks and pops but you need to start with an untouched original rip. Then you can do what you like, turn mono recordings to stereo, clean up further artifacts, thats fun right!! passing off rips with high compression and stuff like that on original rips is bullshit.

    1. I fully agree. In fact, 99% of what they are doing has already been reissued on CD with compressed sounds!

    2. Yes exactly! Also I have some c.d's that are ripped from vinyl and are shit, no alterations what so ever, pops, clicks and clipping and then add compression and claim they are remastered. If recordings are not from master tapes, better to just have the vinyl album. Anyway thanks Rawkin' dog for your great rips mate!!

    3. The only CDs that I'm 99% sure sound good are those from 1992, first they lacked bite, then almost all of them started to compress the sounds and, since 1997, 99.9% are unlistenable for me!
I noticed that even a couple of Rubbles I posted are pumped up, on Discogs they are dated 1992 but in my opinion they are much later.
Days ago I sorted out the Pink Floyd CDs that I had bought in 1994 with the same release date. The ones with remaster date 1992 are perfect, the one, Ummagumma, with remaster date 1994 SUCKS!
      Cheers!

    4. It's true RD thats about the time this crap started happening, as I remember. The labels now want an immediate fix and time is of the essence so the quickest way is to compress and make the quiet sounds louder but you lose the top end and People think it sound's better. Guys & gals like 'the poodle bites', 'Professor stoned' and their ilk, can take months and even longer to do a proper remaster and it will sound prestine.

    5. the poodle bites and Professor Stoned are very good, the former does comparative analyzes between vinyl and CDs.

    6. Thank you for the new True West (loved it)!
I remember how in the mid-noughties there was a wave of "remastering" editions (The Fall, The Cure, Dead Can Dance etc.). Almost all of these reissues took material chronologically up to the early-mid 90s, and what was released afterwards was not remastered. It is immediately clear what was meant by "remaster". Whilst it was necessary to do the opposite - to remaster what was released afterwards... In general, this whole situation is a great illustration of how "businessmen" can ruin excellent technology. For example, there is no such situation in classical music - I've never come across a vinyl-rip that sounds better than the CD version. In "non-classical" music this happens only if they are some independent musicians who are reverent about music in general. On the other hand, such musicians make it so that the vinyl-mix is different from what's on the CD, so you still have to have all the versions in your possession)) So vinyl remains the standard in any case!

    7. Thank you! I'll just say one thing: on the YOUTUBE channel of the great artists the songs are always of excellent quality, no alleged remasters...

  5. [UHQR Analogue Productions 45 RPM] These vinyl pressings everybody a raving about and I've d/l a few and there taken from the master tapes. They sound great and there on this new '200 g Clarity Vinyl' the vinyl doesn't scratch easly as well. A bit expensive for me! Taken from the web : UHQR stands for Ultra High-Quality Record, known for its exceptional audio fidelity and meticulous production process. These vinyl records are characterized by superior sound quality and often come in limited editions. Audiophile labels, such as Mobile Fidelity (MoFi), are associated with UHQR production.
