Saudações, dentre outros tantos fantásticos albuns existentes nos anos 70s Light Of Darkness é um dos meus favoritos! Vale aquí destacar o "exótico" e até mesmo debochado vocal do nosso brother John Latimer. Prestem atenção na fabulosa versão de "Soul Francisco (do não menos fabuloso Tony Joe White)"; apenas essa música já valeria a compra desse álbum!. Desfrutem!

The little-known Scottish band Light of Darkness consisted of Mike Reoch (bass, flute, piano, harmonica), Byron Grant (guitars, fiddle), John Latimer (vocals, piano, organ, percussion), and German drummer Manfred Bebert.

They were based in Hamburg, Germany, and their only record was released by the German label Phillips in 1970.

This self-titled debut album is in a kind-of progressive blues-rock style, highlighted by Latimer's odd voice and an energetic cover of Tony Joe White's "Soul Francisco."

This is a heavy progressive garage rock masterpiece with such a bizarre vocalist, his voice makes Captain Beefheart sound like Art Garfunkel!

However, critics at that time dismissed the record as being directionless; the record-buying public ignored the LP and after a couple of concerts, Light of Darkness disbanded.

A stunning party record! The album came with impressive, absurd cover art. Original Phillips copies now sell for 400 DM or more.

The album was re-issued in 1981 on ZYX in a single sleeve with completely different artwork. Luckily, Second Battle put it right again in 1990, when they released 1,000 copies of the album featuring the original cover plus and insert with information.

Today, their only recording has become a minor cult classic and a collector's item.

Unfortunately, the band members disappeared and never recorded again. Before Light of Darkness, both Reoch and Grant had been in a band called Mike Reoch and the Tremors (together with Dennis Morrison and Don Stuart), and released an album called "Internationale Evergreens" on Elite Special in the 1960s.

VAVOURA BAND was a Heavy trio formed in 1976 by Johnny Vavouras (bass, vocals), John Drolapas (guitar) and drums with Vangelis and Thanos Papastolou Vecchio.
"The Early Days" captures all the glory of this band playing live in 1979 at two different Athens' music halls.
(the album is the oldest chronologically, recorded live in Greece by the Greek team).
Their musical style tended towards Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Golden Earring. With English lyrics and a blues rock edge, -Park House Blues" is a stand-out track, but there are ethnic elements (bouzouki style electric guitar runs from the deft fingers of John Drolapas) and progressive leanings (strange keyboard sounds) that set the Vavoura band apart.
Twelve tracks, including their signature song "(I Ain't the) Junkie" recorded live between 1977 and 1981. Music heavy guitar riffs with powerful (sabbath) doped blues - rock and psychedelia, sound quality is incredible. Vocals in English

Introduction:

Following the breakup of their previous band Mythology in 1968, guitarist Tony Iommi and drummer Bill Ward sought to form a heavy blues band in Aston, Birmingham, England. The group enlisted bassist Geezer Butler, and vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, who had played together in a band called Rare Breed. The new group was initially named The Polka Tulk Blues Company, and also featured slide guitarist Jimmy Phillips and saxophonist Alan "Aker" Clarke. After shortening the name to Polka Tulk, the band changed their name to Earth, and continued as a four-piece without Phillips and Clarke.

Earth played club shows in England, Denmark, and Germany, with sets consisting of cover songs by Jimi Hendrix, Blue Cheer, and Cream; as well as lengthy improvised blues jams. In December 1968, Tony Iommi abruptly left Earth to join Jethro Tull. Although his stint with the band would be short-lived, Iommi made an appearance with Jethro Tull on the The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus TV show. Unsatisfied with the direction of Jethro Tull, Iommi returned to Earth in January 1969. "It just wasn't right, so I left", Iommi said. "At first I thought Tull were great, but I didn't much go for having a leader in the band, which was Ian Anderson's way. When I came back from Tull, I came back with a new attitude altogether. They taught me that to get on you got to work for it".

While playing shows in England in 1969, the band discovered they were being mistaken for another English group named Earth, and decided to again change their name. A movie theatre across the street from the band's rehearsal room was showing the 1963 Boris Karloff horror film Black Sabbath. While watching people line up to see the film, bassist Geezer Butler noted that it was "strange that people spend so much money to see scary movies". Butler wrote a song titled "Black Sabbath" after reading a book by occult writer Dennis Wheatley, and seeing a black-hooded figure standing at the foot of his bed. Making use of the musical tritone, also known as "The Devil's Interval", the song's ominous sound and dark lyrics pushed the band in a darker direction, a stark contrast to the popular music of the late 1960s, which was dominated by flower power, folk music, and hippie culture. Inspired by the new sound, the band changed their name to Black Sabbath in August 1969, and made the decision to focus writing similar material, in an attempt to create the musical equivalent of horror films.

Black Sabbath were signed to Philips Records in December 1969, and released their first single, "Evil Woman" through Philips subsidiary Fontana Records in January 1970. Later releases were handled by Philips' newly formed progressive rock label, Vertigo Records. Although the single failed to chart, the band were afforded two days of studio time in late January to record their debut album with producer Rodger Bain. Iommi recalls recording live: "We thought 'We have two days to do it and one of the days is mixing.' So we played live. Ozzy was singing at the same time, we just put him in a separate booth and off we went. We never had a second run of most of the stuff."

The eponymous Black Sabbath was released on Friday the 13th, February 1970. The album reached number 8 in the UK, and following its US release in May 1970 by Warner Bros. Records, the album reached number 23 on the Billboard 200, where it remained for over a year, selling a million copies. While the album was a commercial success, it was widely panned by critics....fools & idiots

Tony Iommi cleaned house in 1992 to reunite the classic 1980s lineup of Black Sabbath (although what was to become the Dehumanizer line-up had originally been Iommi/Butler/Powell before Cozy Powell suffered a hip injury) Founding member Geezer Butler, along with Ronnie James Dio and Vinny Appice, joined up with Tony Iommi once again (this was the same line-up from 1981's Mob Rules and 1982's Live Evil) and together they recorded Dehumanizer (1992). Playing to larger audiences than they had in nearly a decade, the rejuvenated Sabbath enjoyed renewed success with the Dehumanizer album and tour. It was around this time that Ozzy Osbourne announced his retirement from touring and proposed that Black Sabbath open his final two shows at Costa Mesa. When Dio refused to participate, Iommi, Butler and Appice agreed to appear without him.

Incomplete set. There aren't any terribly obvious edits, although there's one in the track change between 6/7 ("Die Young" was not included) and the end of track 8, where Dio announces Vinny Appice but instead of the drum solo the bootleg goes into "Iron Man." The bootleg fades out at the end.

There are a couple seconds of "E5150" (played over the PA as an intro) at the beginning of track 1. There's a short guitar intro/solo before "Black Sabbath" starts on track 7.

Aê putada, eis aqui mais uma banda que passou pelo lendário selo alemão Bacillus Records. Ao invés de seguir a linha experimental do krautrock ou do progressivo sinfônico tradicional, o Hairy Chapter se focava em fazer um hard rock com toques psicodélicos ao invés do progressivo em si como é muitas vezes relacionada, talvez pela duração das músicas.

Nesta versão da Second Battle, que relançou vários álbuns de bandas alemãs obscuras, há os dois únicos álbuns do Hairy Chapter em apenas um CD. Além disso, a Second Battle relançou os álbuns em vinil, uma vez que as prensagens da época ficaram muito difíceis de serem encontradas.

Hello freaks, here's another band which was signed to the lengendary German Bacillus Records label. Instead of following experimental krautrock or traditional symphonic progressive tides, Hairy Chapter focussed themselves in creating a hard rock with psychedelic elements rather than progressive music itself as they are so often related to it, maybe because of the lenght of their songs.

On this Second Battle release, label which reissue many albums made by obscure German bands, there are the two only Hairy Chapter albums in just one CD. Besides, Second Battle also reissue the two vinyls, once that the original pressings were too tough to find.

I have now found so many really great blogs with many wonderful things but yours still offers so much to me in what I desire and the quality I find so important. I have never, nor will I ever, find MP3 acceptable in any way... much less to archive and keep as part of my permanent collection. And now with the computer becoming the major part of many peoples home entertainment system with direct playback from lossless media files and such, and the fact that external storage itself has become much less expensive for very large capacity... the size of obtaining and collecting only the very best quality is the only acceptable thing to do at all in my opinion.

As the next selection, here is this very choice Limited 4 CD Box from Kin Ping Meh from 1998. These were sold out pretty quickly as Second Battle made a lot of their releases available in strictly limited editions in numbers of usually 1500 or even less. And, of course, nowadays when you can find some of these for sale, they can go for into the hundreds of dollars just to obtain the item. It is always great to enjoy such Krautrock music and I will try to put some more of it up in the near future for you. The beginnings of the Mannheim based Krautrock-legend Kin Ping Meh: This box set edition presents 4 1/2 hours of only unreleased stuff, which should be interesting not only for KPM fans. Among the recordings, there are many "new" old songs, cover versions, sessions, great live performances and alternative versions of KPM's better known repertoire. Moreover, the new CD-artwork concept was made to represent the scene of the frontcover picture of KPM's former "original" debut album a little bit more. These erotic illustrations, which were taken from historic patterns, relate much closer to the well known Chinese novel "Kin Ping Meh" written by the famous Chinese poet Wang Schi Tschong (1526- 1593). He tells the story of Xi Men Ching, a rich and horny business man, who controled 6 beautiful concubines in his household. The title KIN PING MEH (JIN PING MEI) itself explains this in the same way: "Plum blossoms in a golden vase" meant beautiful women in a well-off house. The new CD-designs shows only in detail, what that meant in daily life. This design scheme was not done in order to achieve more commercial potiential. Please note: The entire box-set contains a free bonus CD, which is not for sale otherwise. This box set was strictly limited to only 1500 copies ever made.

This edition was especially made for KPM-fans and hunters in the Krautrock jungle. FAIRY TALES & CRYPTIC CHAPTERS let the music of KIN PING MEH of which original records are still highly esteemed with collector circuits, sound to you in a complete different way. You may take it as a sort of special performance of almost five hours presenting hidden treasures taken from reels which were put down for long decades. Therefore these recordings cover not only the official catalogue of KPM, but introduce to you the group's complete artificial development through their early years. You will listen to previously unreleased songs of a pre-KPM group called TAKE FIVE, many outtakes, sessions, covers from artist like DEEP PURPLE, PROCOL HARUM, CHICAGO etc. - and last but not least soundboard recordings of their earliest live performances in 1970. The band was formed in August 1969 when the trio of musicians: Pete Waya (bass), Phil Mogg (b. 4/15/1948 in London, vocals) and Mick Bolton (guitar), appearing under the name Hocus Pocus, joined by drummer Andy Parker.

After signing with a small label Beacon Records debut album in 1971, UFO and, presenting a blend of progressive space rock with blues and boogie. Both the first and the next two LPs UFO II? Flying (One Hour Space Rock) and UFO Live (Landed In Japan) has not gained greater recognition in the UK. Unlike what happened in Germany and Japan, where the group has gained very many dedicated fans and reacting hysterically.

In January 1972, Bolton said goodbye to colleagues and a month later was replaced by Larry Wallis (ex-Blodwyn Pig and Shagat). But he, in October the same year left the band and went to the Pink Fairies. Since November 1972 with a UFO occurred Bernie Marsden, who in June the following year gave way to Michael Schenkerowi (ex-Scorpions). With him, the group entered the best period in its history. It started a great album Phenomenon released in May 1974 by Chrysalis Records label and contains such classics as "Rock Bottom" and "Doctor Doctor". At the same time changed the music of heavy metal on the luscious, full colored, inventive solos Schenker.

Originally released only in Japan as "UFO Lands In Tokyo", this is a real nice performance, featuring material from their first two albums, "UFO 1" and "UFO 2 - Flying". Guitarist on this and the other two releases is Mick Bolton, who was much more slow-handed than Schenker. Unfortunately his playing lacked the commercial appeal of Schenker. Part boogie-based hard rock and part space rock, this early incarnation of UFO was innovative in ways playing

Recorded in of a large and seemingly enthusiastic Tokyo audience, the album sounds like it was recorded in a rush.

UFO's second studio album "Flying" provided the band with an unexpected Japanese hit in the form of the single 'Prince Kajuku' b/w 'The Coming of Prince Kajuku'. The hit led to tremendous demand for more product with the immediate resulting being the release of 1972's "UFO Live In Japan"...This album the same track listing, but different cover art the was also released in Germany under the title "UFO Live".

LIVE captures the original line-up in-concert, and it's interesting to hear the band in their formative stages. Half of the six songs are amped up covers ... Full Description of classics, such as Eddie Cochran's "C'mon Everybody," Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love," and Paul Butterfield's "Loving Cup."

Co-produced by the band and Milton Samuel, the six tracks pulls heavily from their first two studio sets featured original guitarist Mick Bolton, whose blues feel was the exact opposite of his replacement's highly technical speed runs I'll tell you that the results are professional, though seldom inspiring.

On their eponymous second album, Out of Focus further develop their progressive jazz-rock sound, at the same time pushing in other directions as well. The rhythm section is still as upbeat and funky as ever, with those repetitive but odd rhythm patterns. There is now more sax in the mix, as well as the flute riffing, guitar wails, and chunky organ chords, with each instrument allowed ample soloing and no instrument over-dominant. If anything, this one dispenses with some of the heavy rock sound to get closer to the jazz influences. They slow down the pace on the strange folk song "It's Your Life" as well as the even stranger "Blue Sunday Morning" with its airy flute, church organ, and bizarre song narration. Lyrics are even sharper, whether ripping into the banality of television or the hypocrisy of religion, with the dark-edged humor more firmly in place. On the suite "Fly Bird Fly"/"Television Program," the group veers from soft to full in-your-face intensity while staying on a bouncy riff. On long tracks like this one and "Whispering," they throw a lot of variation over repetitive grooves to create mesmerizing jams that are both incredibly loose and far more focused than the average jam band. With a group, Atomic Rooster was related to many musicians, but only one to fight for her for many years, since 1969, when together with Carl Palmer founded on the ruins of the band The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, until 1984, when there was a definitive end of the business. This was Vincent Crane, considered a good friend, a charming man and a dynamic organizer. Vincent was educated musically, and was looking for a place in the world of culture, not only in the rock. He founded his own bands already in the 60's while studying music. Atomic Rooster was the largest, with was most emotionally involved.

The band played progressive hard-rock. At the beginning of the sound was dominated by the Vincent, and in fact Hammond. With time, especially after the adoption of DuCanna the sound, became the a more guitar's.

Sounds, Atomic was built on Hammond organ. While the unique sound has been achieved through the cooperation of the organ and the guitar. Vincent Crane, who played the organ, was far from Keith Emerson and David Greenslade'a. Not he was a brilliant musician less than they do. He played legato or chords, do not shine technique rather avoid ornaments. Nevertheless, remained on top for several years. Some journalists wrote about musical regime Emerson / Kaye / Crane / Wakeman, most creative people of organs Hammond B3 .

When colorful period of organs, ended in popular music, the musicians quickly started looking for other opportunities. Emerson and Wakeman followed electronically. Vincent and Kaye remained loyal to the organ HammondB3, although increasingly less interest aroused listeners.

Small sample to enrich of music the synth arrangements, orchestral or negro elements were not a rather funky in the works of Atomic Rooster turning points. The group has released seven albums of new material,including any not(live)in active during .The biggest successes are the two singles record 'Devil's Answer', and 'Tomorrow Night' and albums "Death Walks Behind You" and "In Hearing Of Atomic Rooster"

Vincent Crane was considered crazy music, concerts sold strange expression, he laughed and shook his head. But he had a heart and a broad musical interests associated with the world of culture. In 1970 the group Atomic Rooster released an album "Death Walks Behind You". No one then could not pass the title of the album can become a curse. Vincent was sick. His illness at some point overcome his extraordinary will to fight. Now is the moment of weakness after her is death. 3 years later Death she took another member of the band, drummer Paul Hammond.

In 1979, John Du Cann & Vincent Crane negotiated a licensing deal with EMI for a new album; shortly after it's release in 1980, they moved to Polydor who released two 3-track singles; a new album was also required as part of the deal so John spent 9 months writing & recording songs for the 'killer' album; unfortunately Polydor passed after a lack of single success and the album never saw the light of day.

Guitarist John Du Cann undertaking most of the songwriting, the album tracks were demo at his home studio. Du Cann plays all the instruments, with pianist Vincent Crane programming the drums for Paul Hammond to follow later on.

The programming gives Homework a new wave sound, especially on opener The Dukes Theme. There is a touch of sleazy rock’n’roll to other tracks such as Fool, sounding like a beefed-up mix of Slade and the Grease soundtrack. Of course, Du Cann’s outstanding guitar work augments his rough vocals well.

Being demos, these tracks lack the fire of that 1980 EMI album. If Polydor had let Atomic Rooster finish their Homework, however, it could have been fantastic. As a bonus here, there are six remarkable tracks from the two 1982 singles, Play It Again and End Of The Day. Featuring session bassist John McCoy, they’re evidence of what could have been: why the album was dropped on this evidence is truly odd. Live B-sides include Devil’s Answer and Tomorrow Night, which, along with some informative packaging, will please fans.

"Homework" the proposed album that would/should have seen the light of day sometime in 1982 finally sees the light of day – only quarter of a century later… ha! It’s rather sad that the album was selved because out of the 17 proposed songs here – more than half would have had pretty good potential if they were polished and properly recorded. Imagine “The Devil in me” getting the full-on treatement…for instance…hm........ or “cut the wire”… thinking of the possibilities, just makes you sad, seeing how short sighted business people could hamper and tamper and ruin the artistic vision of people….alas… this is life, and this was then and this is now…

Du Cann's demos, recorded between 1979-81 for the projected album, were never completed and remained unreleased for several decades. In 2008, Du Cann licensed them for release by Angel Air Records, under the Atomic Rooster moniker. The album was rounded out by the inclusion of the six A and B-sides of the two Polydor singles.

Double CD released, by the team and containing a half-hour concert of 1972 (excellent!), several pieces of studio sessions for the BBC from the years 1976-1981 and two concerts with the Reading Festival - The 1980 and 1982.

The first earliest concert was recorded in Paris Theatre in 1972. There’s only four songs and the sound quality is not perfect but it’s the best you can get right now. It’s just great to hear live songs from the two first Budgie albums. There’s also a concert in Reading Festival 1980 after those four songs. There’s “Breaking All the House Rules” and more, especially “Napoleon Bona Part 1&2 is a great live version. “Breadfan” is a “lost edit not transmitted” – there’s a guitar solo after the song – or actually it’s only half of a song.

There’s two songs “Sky High Percentage” and “In the Grip Of A Tyrefitter’s Hand” performed in John Peel Show in 1976. Those two live versions are absolutely amazing! Then Friday Rock Show tracks in 1981 “I Turned to Stone”, “Superstar” and “She Used Me Up” sound more like second studio versions but they are still great material for Budgie fans.

Saudações bordeldorockblog, nôs sabemos que dentro dos gêneros musicais existem as ramificações ou os chamados estilos de rock, como por exemplo hard rock, heavy rock, southern rock, e por aí vai; e também sabemos que dentro de alguns estilos existem as bandas que, na maioria das vezes, devido as suas qualidades acabam se destacando!

Pois bem, quando falamos de southern rock, imediatamente algumas bandas nos vêem a mente, e certamente uma delas é o Allman Brothers Band, que se não é a melhor no estilo, disputa esse título, pau a pau, com qualquer outra banda. E eu trago para vocês dessa vez, um álbum ao vivo, que eu reputo como um dos melhores que eu já ouví em minha vida!

Em Live Atlanta International Pop Festival, nôs podemos ouvir essa banda com o seu line-up completo, e com os músicos no auge de suas formas. Fantástico! E olha, normalmente eu torço o nariz para jams sessions, por achar que na maioria das vezes, tratam-se apenas de "masturbação sonora"; mas não é o caso nesse álbum aquí! Inclusive, quem tem um bom fone de ouvido, coloque-o e viaje na qualidade musical dessa esplêndida banda. Desfrutem!

The 1970 Atlanta International Pop Festival was one of the first big rock festivals of the decade, beating out the Isle of Wight by over a month.

It was also home turf for the Allman Brothers, who were invited to play the opening and closing sets of the three-day event.

In retrospect, it's interesting to note how--despite their penchant for extended jams--the Allmans were somewhat at odds with the flower-child ethic of the day; after the MC delivers a classic hippie/stoner intro, the tough, raw opening strains of "Statesboro Blues" come off as delightfully incongruous.

Nevertheless, the band's improvisational blues-rock majesty made them a crowd-pleaser. It's easy to see why; the level of energy (and musicianship) here equals, if not surpasses their legendary live Fillmore East recordings from the following year, which showcase much of the same material.

Dickey Betts and Duane Allman's guitars play ably against Greg Allman's thick organ voicings and the percolating polyrhythms of drummers Butch Trucks and J. Johnny Johnson.

Between-song announcements of a rain delay and the opening of the gates to non-paying fans reinforce the Woodstock-era vibe, making this two-disc set effective as both a musical and historical document.

Este album tem apenas 31 minutos de duracao ... mas sao 31 minutos de pura viajem, meio esquisito em algumas partes, mas no bom sentido.

Pra inicio de conversa o album foi gravado por uma banda que nao existe, na verdade esse e' o fruto de um projeto de 3 operadores de estúdio (engenheiros de som/ produtores) que estavam entediados, começaram a brincar com instrumentos e seus equipamentos e acabou saindo essa maravilha ... quem diria!

Depois de ouvir esse disco vc vai se sentir bebado mesmo sem ter tomado uma gota!! :-)

This album is only 31 minutes long, but let me tell you ... it will be a trippy 31 minutes for sure!

It was recorded by 3 studio guys (engineers/producers/arrangers) and is one of the most psychedelic fucked up records out there. Aparently they got bored in studio, started messing around with instruments and equipment and this is what came out.

One of the guys in this record (Wil Malone) later did a solo album, which apparently is also really good (i haven't heard it myself).

The songs here are really spooky and strange with some really loud guitar parts. At the end of your listening you will feel drunk, even if you haven't had a single drop!! :-)

The Groundhogs were not one of those groups that made it real big. They were however respected by some of the greats that were in the blues, like John Lee Hooker for instance. The group was actually named after one of Hooker's songs. Regardless of that well to do association, they stood on their own ground and played memorable blues-rock for a few years. It wasn't the best blues-rock in the world, although it was good enough in the U.K. were they landed in the top ten in a few instances. Tony McPhee was the creative force behind the band; everything pretty much started and ended with him.

The Groundhogs were well recognized in the best learned British musical circles in the late '60s, but when Mick Jagger asked them to tour in support of the Rolling Stones in 1971, this blues-rock trio became much more widely known.

In fact, they became....Live at Leeds.

Promo release (not for commercial use) 100 copies sent out to US radio stations. Live recording (five tracks) from the `hogs supporting the Stones on their UK "farewell" tour in Feb 1971. Owing to the scarcity of copies this has become the most valuable of all TS recordings & misinformation about Live at Leeds has led to numerous myths - the main one being that this was a bootleg. this live set was documented and pressed in a very limited edition at the behest of Mick Jagger, and as a professional courtesy of sorts. As the Stones were taping themselves, Jagger commissioned engineer/producer Glyn Johns to record the Groundhogs and press up copies for friends and promotional use.

Although there are several Groundhogs live albums that have popped up in the last decade or so, most of them were recorded well after the band’s early 70’s peak. “Live at Leeds ‘71”, recorded when the band was on tour opening for the Rolling Stones, is a fantastic exception. Rumour has it that this show was recorded at the personal behest of Mick Jagger himself, a fan of the band who gave the master to Groundhogs main man Tony McPhee and had a few copies pressed for promotional purposes. Whether or not this is true doesn’t really matter, as there’s so much smoke and mirrors in rock and roll mythos that it becomes virtually impossible to separate the bullshit from the truth. In any case, it makes for a nice story, and what’s really important is the result: a short but potent snapshot of the classic Groundhogs line-up of Tony McPhee (guitar/vocals), Pete Kruickshank (bass) and Ken Pustelnik (drums) rocking like a motherfucker in front of a bunch of Stones fans. The album finds the band playing 3 songs from their then newest LP, “Split”, and 2 more their previous one, “Thank Christ for the Bomb”. Opening with “Cherry Red”, arguably the bands finest bit of studio glory, the band starts out strong and only gets better as the show progresses, the cacophonous but limber bass and drums providing ample prodding for McPhee’s sheets of stinging guitar fuzz. “Cherry Red” is perhaps the only song here that doesn’t quite equal the studio version, but that’s only because the studio version is so fucking great to begin with. McPhee’s marble-mouthed vocals can’t quite replicate the multi-tracked female impersonator chorus from the original, but the guitar is even more rough & ready, the sound of the whole album falling somewhere between the MC5’s “Kick out the Jams” and Grand Funk Railroad’s “Live Album”. The band tackle’s “Garden” next, showing great restraint on the verses while nearly doubling the tempo on the chorus riffs. Much like the underrated Blue Cheer, The Groundhogs knew the value of dynamics, even if the volume is on 11 most of the time here. “Split, Part 1” is given a great workout here, sounding considerably more muscular than the studio version, and Tony takes some time to stretch out a bit during the second solo. The delta/dada blues of “Groundhog” is next, with Tony going solo on guitar and vocals. While not as “authentic” sounding as the studio version, it’s yet another fantastic showcase of McPhee’s oh-so-very underrated guitar and vocal skills. I will admit the decision to leave out the constant bass drum “thump” of the studio version here is a little baffling, but if you listen closely, you can hear a few people in the audience offering some helpful handclaps. The band caps things off (at least on this recording) with the extended jam-a-thon of “Eccentric Man”, McPhee’s low-key introduction standing sharply at odds with the staggeringly powerful intro of the song. One of the group’s heaviest studio cuts is transformed into an absolute monster here, the tempo and volume both increased considerably. Cruickshank’s meandering throb and Pustelnik’s drunken octopus bashing push along McPhee’s shrieking guitar improvisations like a meth-raging Cream. This was some of the heaviest stuff anyone was putting out at this time, with Blue Cheer having turned down and close to breakup and Grand Funk on their way to “We’re An American Band” mediocrity. “Live at Leeds ‘71” is a great example of how great the trio of McPhee, Cruickshank and Pustelnik really were, and it shows them at their peak as a band: energetic, loud-as-fuck and full of fire and purpose.

Released by EMI [well as Akarma]disc contains a 37-minute concert (which promotes Split LP) Excellent, hard-blues playing and excellent sound quality. I recommend.

The single album released by Haze had another of those extraordinary artwork sleeves designed by Walter Seyffer of Nine Days' Wonder fame. It was made to look exactly like a slide picture, complete with frame and a transparent picture of the group Haze. Hazecolor-Dia was a Hauke & Dierks production, recorded during April 1971 at the Clerks Studio. All five tracks were written by Dietmar Low. Slow, cleverly-arranged heavy progressive numbers with a faint blues tinge, featuring humorous lyrics: "A Way To Find Paradise" told about a hippy's struggle to get his hashish to smoke! Scherler really had a strange and wild voice (he usually screamed as loudly as he could), adding much to their gutsy freak rock style. Several tracks also featured flute (the flute player is not identified on the cover). Haze were probably inspired by The Edgar Broughton Band, Arthur Brown and Captain Beefheart. Their album is recommended for all freak rock fans! (Cosmic Dreams)

Sheavy (sometimes typeset as sHeavy, to emphasise their heaviness) are a long running Canadaian Stoner Rock/Metal act. The band are vastly underrated but no less of an important contributor to the genre. While they may not have become as successful as some of their American peers, the band are still worth checking out and have released a wealth of really strong albums.

Celestial Hi-Fi was their third full-length studio album and was released in 2000, which became one of their better loved albums even as the scene which spawned them was fast disappearing from media attention. It was the second of four albums to feature Steve Hennessey, Dan Moore, Keith Foley and Ren Squires in the line-up at the height of the band’s stability and initial push.

If you like creative and interesting bands like Fu Manchu, Kyuss, The Atomic Bitchwax, Dozer or even Clutch then Sheavy are a perfect outfit to discover and explore. Black Sabbath inspired grooves and warm desert feel are both very much in evidence on Celestial Hi-Fi.

In fact, if you do like Sabbath then the vocals of in particular may interest you, as Singer Steve Hennessey sometimes does an incredible job of specifically mimicking Ozzy Osbourne, right down to some of the exact nuances, although on this album he did start developing more of his own style at times as well.

On Celestial Hi-Fi the band stopped splitting their time between track styles as much and instead delivered more six-and-a-half minute tracks which covered all of the band’s styles in one. This album definitely features more groovy and melodic up-tempo buzzy rockers than their earlier work did, but still has a few of the slower doomy numbers for variety. If you are the type of person who finds that music can conjure up imagery; this is very much an album that you can picture being heard in front of a warm orange sunset rather than beside a rain-soaked window overlooking a bleak industrial cityscape.

As with all the band’s albums, the record is full of impressive guitar solos. This album in particular almost never stops delivering lead guitar moments in some form or another.

There are many album highlights including the amazingly catchy `What’s Up Mr. Zero?’ which is one of the band’s best songs to date, as well as the Title Track and `Gemini (The Twins)’ however there is no real let-up in quality and the album is fantastic from beginning to end, there aren’t any skipable tracks and everything on the record is as melodically strong as eachother.

Overall Celestial Hi-Fi is another enjoyable collection of warm, analogue sounding Stoner Rock/Metal tracks from Sheavy, continuing on their upward trajectory in terms of quality and increasing originality. Celestial Hi-Fi is unquestionably one of the band’s best albums and if you enjoy it check out the band’s previous, more Sabbathy effort The Electric Sleep too. I highly recommend both albums to fans of the aforementioned bands of the genre as a whole.

     Talvez este seja um dos melhores hard rock/ proto prog albums que voce (nao) conhece!!

Culpeper's Orchard e' uma banda Dinamarquesa com um vocalista Ingles. este e' o primeiro disco da banda que originalmente so' foi lançado na Dinamarca e na Alemanha ( e portanto so' deve ter vendido umas 15 copias! rs).
      Porem, rock n roll em demostrado aqui e' de primeiríssima qualidade, pra quem conhece vc vai poder fazer comparativos com Zeppelin, Purple, Tull e pq nao dizer o todo poderoso Sabbath.
Pire no video com a musica "Ode to Resistence"!

This might be the greatest hard-rock/ proto prog album that you have (not) heard!!!

    Culpeper's Orchard is a Danish band with a British vocalist. This great hard rock is their second album, originally only released in Denmark and Germany (therefore it sold about 15 copies at the time!! lol)

    But the songs... there are some Zep-type ballads, some Purple, some Tull and even the almighty Sabbath ... All in all some superb rock songs.
    Simply a forgotten gem and a unknown classic... enjoy it!

The first period of the band from 1969 to 1976.

For most of this period, musicians were downtrodden by the critics, by the industry miusical and deceived manager Terry Knight. In such a setting created and performed. Wind in the sails and not skąpili them fans. Thanks to the really big successes achieved commercial and artistic. Everywhere in the world in concert accompanied by the sympathy and understanding. Fans dubbed the nickname of the American team (American Band).

Grand Funk were not a great team, but they were reliable in what they were doing give people what they received from them, namely, positive emotions. The soul of the team was Mark Farner, who composed most of their repertoire. Thanks to him many hit were launched.

All three were fans of rock music since elementary school and played their instruments in local groups while studying in high school in Flint. Initially it was a band, The Jazzmasters, then The Pack, where he played Brewer. After the departure of Mark Farner Knight came as a bassist. Often they played for free or low-paid dance clubs. Several times they performed at festivals and events that has caused them some concern and developed a style for the future. For outdoor concerts (gig), it was necessary to have a strong apparatus. The band soon bought myself so strong that he began to be noticed not only with a good game, but also very loud.

Company Capitol already knew why Knight dismissed 30,000 artwork printed on the board just because he did not like their design. Knight approached very carefully to this album. He believed in what he was doing. Plate was not well received by critics just like another. GFR is a typical style of heavy-rock. Critics believed that there is nothing new in the music of GFR, defined is a heavy, metallic, dynamic, energetic, but this is already such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin. The style at the turn decades of successful major and GFR have benefited from this turn of events. It seems that they were one of the five best rock bands in the world at that time. But critics have ignored them, because according to them, just played at least 100 bands in the USA. Some even loudly. Criticism can not help. Besides the musicians themselves were less interested in the plates. Music, which was on the LP, in their opinion does not reflect the character of the team. Concerts this was what they liked. The listener receives little listening to their records, real hypnosis got on the show.

In 1973 the band officially shortened the name to Grand Funk and grew up on the fourth musician, Craig Frost (born on 20.04.1948 in Flint, Michigan) playing the piano. With a new producer Todd Rundgren finally conquered the singles market, reaching to the first U.S. charts with the song "We're An American Band". which commemorated the time spent in concert tours.

In 1974, their processing heavyrockowa hit "Loco-motion" was once sung by Little Eve, also got to the top of lists. Never before in the history of the U.S. charts processing work, which in the original version came in the first place, did not make the same feat. In 1975, when the popularity of the group significantly decreased, she returned to the original name of Grand Funk Railroad. A year later she signed with MCA Records and recorded an album 'Good Singin,Good Playin', which was produced by Frank Zappa. The disc does not even reached the Top 50, and Farner left disappointed colleagues, opting for a solo career. Other musicians are still stuck together, guitarist Billy dokooptowując Elworthy'ego and changing its name to Flint. They released only one album, which has not suffered any commercial success.

In the years 1981-1983 Grand Funk reactivated, this time in the composition of Farner, Brewer and bassist Dennis Bellinger. They recorded the 1981 LP 'Grand Funk Lives' and dating from the 1983 album 'What's Funk?', Were issued by the Full Moon label. You can not regain former glory, the band broke up again, taking into account a total of more than 20 million records sold. Farner returned to solo activities, and Brewer and Frost joined Bob Seger and his Silver Bullet Band group.

In 1997, Grand Funk Railroad to connect again to record a benefit album titled 'Bosnia', two years later, Capitol issued a three-disc retrospective box, Funk Thirty Years: 1969 / 99.

Where is this energy? disappeared? What happened? These questions until the pressure on my lips when I listen to If I Were Brittania I'd Waive The Rules. It's true you can not stand still, the changes are needed. Each team, in order to maintain size, must evolve. But you can not renounce to its greatest strengths!

On this album, Shelley and his colleagues are playing as if they did not want to play. As if somewhere lost the passion, enthusiasm, faith in the meaning of her own music. Or maybe you just tired of. Either way, an escape from his own "I" did not give the team a successful asylum. Because if you can play the boogie (Anne Neggen) without verve, enthusiasm, roe. Is another turn in the direction of funky (title track) does not lead Budgie to in a blind alley?

There's only so much Seventies hard rock that's gonna make the Great Cosmic Transition, and Budgie's seventh album definitely does not fall in that category.

For the album cover accurately reflects what lies within,36:08 minutes of raucous rock and roll with a pause for breath that got the dandruff flying and the peace signs flashing from me and my moronic teenage metal cronies in the early 80s.

Now, it's obvious that Budgie is simply a metallic feast from start to finish and even on the poorer tracks the lead work is never less than blistering. It injected a much needed adrenalin blast into Budgie increasingly staid material...

For me personally I rate this one as one of Budgie best. A world away from Power Supply's metal attack this album is melodic, varied and dare I say lightweight bar the odd moment but I love it, is ace hidden in the sleeve.

Quiet recording, light, but less interesting, not because it is light. The rhythm section playing slightly in an atmosphere of funky. Text about two people, but it is difficult to guess the context.

ATOLL was one of the brighter stars in the constellation of classic French '70s bands, and might be better remembered today if only they had been a little more productive. As it is, their reputation rests on only two albums produced over a five year period, the first of which was this 1975 release, in retrospect one of the pinnacles of French Progressive Rock and a highlight of the group's all-too brief career.
Certainly it's a dramatic improvement over their lackluster 1974 debut "Musiciens- Magiciens", with moments of real emotional power and instrumental urgency. The production may sound primitive by today's standards, and the mix is sometimes less than ideal (some of the solos are buried in a haze of dreamlike echo). But the music is undeniable ambitious, ranging from the romantic grandeur of "Le Voleur d' Extase" to the hair-raising nine-minute album opener "Le Photographe Exorciste, in which singer Andre Balzer's seductive whisper is gradually seized by an unearthly panic suggesting the more grotesque apparitions of an H.P. Lovecraft story.

Then there's the four-part title suite, a mini-marvel of passive/aggressive mood swings, from orchestral color to near-demonic pandemonium and back again. The track never once loses any momentum over its epic 21-minute length, and at the end of the final movement stops dead in its tracks, closing the album with all the finality of a pulled plug.

But what really elevates this LP above the pack is the addition of Richard Aubert on electric violin, giving the music a unique jazz-rock flavor lacking elsewhere in the ATOLL discography. A lot of heat is generated in his duels with guitarist Christian Beya, but make no mistake: this isn't genuine jazz-rock, however closely it may at times flirt with a fusion vocabulary.

I'm thinking of the track "Cazotten No. 1", a semi-improvised jam on which the rhythm section in particular doesn't sound entirely comfortable, although it may have been a question of studio inhibition. The Musea CD offers as a bonus track an earlier, live rendition of the song, with a guest saxophone player subbing for the violinist (who only joined the band a few weeks before the album was cut). The live version is twice as long, and played with an enthusiasm that apparently didn't quite survive the translation to the studio.

The album was a modest international hit (it was, if you'll pardon the expression, big in Japan), but that didn't stop the band from switching gears (again) for its next and last true Progressive album "Tertio" in 1977, and again two years later for "Rock Puzzle". It may have been a natural stylistic evolution, but the inconsistency didn't do their legacy any favors, especially since every next metamorphosis was in a retrograde direction.

The impression left by the exhaustive notes in the CD booklet is of a struggling young Progressive Rock band trying to find its voice amid the usual show biz frustrations of cancelled gigs, financial shortfalls, and an unstable personnel roster. This should have been their breakthrough album: the group even recorded an English language version several years later (quick translation: The Evil Spider), in a belated attempt to widen their appeal.

Thankfully, it was never released. But after nearly three decades the untarnished original can still be enjoyed in all its creative glory. (Neu!mann at ProgArchives)

Between the mid-60's and early 70's, many of the blues band formed in the UK, such as Savoy Brown, Fleetwood Mac and John Mayall's Bluebreakers, Chicken Shack was one of them....

Stan Webb, born in Fulham, south-west London February 3, 1946 in a modest family is the man without whom Chicken Shack never moved, sometimes against all odds and has been since the mid-60s.

This is the natural leader and iconic, like Kim Simmonds with Savoy Brown;In his youth, he moved to Blakedown in Worcestershire, and finally settled near Kidderminster.

It was only when he heard Barney Kessel play guitar on a disc of Oscar Peterson that he decided to take up the guitar.

Thus, it is in Kidderminster in Worcestershire that Stan brought together his first band, The Blue Four.

His first real band called Sons of Blue was established in 1964, a young band including the pianist Christine Perfect (born July 12, 1943), bassist Andy Silvester (born June 16, 1947 in Kidderminster, flutist, saxophonist Chris Wood (later a member of Traffic), and singer David 'Rowdy' Yates.

The group only lasted a year before Christine and David did make the trip to London, she become a model for him and to work on the business side of the recording industry. Stan and Andy then form a trio with drummer Alan Morley and will test their endurance in Germany, in Hamburg. This line-up pays the tribe almost mandatory to Rock (five hours together at the Star Club) for two years before returning to the Midlands in 1967.

Nevertheless, in early 1965 Stan sets up the first incarnation of Chicken Shack bassist Andy Silvester with a succession of drummers and starting with Alan Morley, Al Sykes, Hughie Flint and finally Dave Bidwell. Legend has it that the band's name comes from the barn belonging to the parents of Andy in which they repeated. In early 1967, Andy contacted Christine and suggested he join them. They send a tape to Mike Vernon, but because the quality is not brilliant, he comes to see directly into the Midlands during the Seventh National Jazz & Blues Festival. 1967 was a good year for British Blues, held mainly by the Seventh National Jazz & Blues Festival, which this year took place from August 11 to 13 at the Royal Windsor Racecourse. Yet not only Eric Clapton left John Mayall to form Cream, but his successor, Peter Green, had also taken off by creating Fleetwood Mac, Bob Brunning on bass because John McVie could not give quite the Bluesbreakers . There were two scenes in Windsor, the main structure was an open-air a little run down, the other inside a tent. Fleetwood Mac had its place on the main stage, and Chicken Shack on his debut. The group won a great success. The formation of Fleetwood Mac was Mike Vernon also provided the impetus to create the Blue Horizon label, until then a secondary activity by post, in a society completely separate disk distributed by CBS.

After Mike's trip to Kidderminster, Chicken Shack became the second major signing of the label.

Chicken Shack published in 1972 on Dram (the label ... Savoy Brown!) What an incredible album "Imagination Lady".

On the cover of the album, the "Lady Fantasy" comes out of the head of Webb is none other than Christine Perfect.

True echo the first two Led Zeppelin and Cactus first, the music of this album is sip of wah-wah, thick bass and drums fury.

We finally discovered the enormous capacity of the Webb game, both in improvisation and in the manic-rock riffs that explode into the open.

His playing wah-wah is a revelation.

Webb stands out as the master of a language that new Blues Rock, hitherto, only Peter Green was able to interpret in his moments of madness.

"Imagination Lady" (Deram, April 1972) was Webb and company's fifth studio set,the predominant sound remained standard English blues-rock, but this time around there was a distinctive rock feel to tracks such as the opener 'Crying Won't Help You Now' and 'their cover of Don Nix's 'Going Down. Elsewhere, 'Daughter of the Hillside' sounds like a top-notch Cream outtake, while the Webb-penned closer 'The Loser' almost qualifies as a piece of top-40 pop. Webb's a surprisingly good singer and a vastly overlooked guitarist - check out the band's vamped up cover of Tim Hardin's 'If I Were a Carpenter'. The only real disappointment comes in the form of a needless and seemingly endless Hancox drum solo on the 11 minute plus 'Telling Your Fortune'. That said, the band's blues-oriented fans aren't particularly fond of this set, but precisely because it's more diverse and openly commercial, I'd give it the nod.

British guitarist Stan Webb is one of those great players who somehow has slipped through the cracks in the guitar hero pantheon. Perhaps he's been overshadowed by the "Holy Trinity" of British axemen-Clapton, Beck & Page. One need only to listen to the searing Hendrixian solo on "Poor Boy" (contained on this album)to see exactly what I'm talking about. "Imagination Lady" is Chicken Shack's strongest studio album, as it's the first to fully showcase Webb's talents (Christine McVie had left at this point, removing any folk or pop influences that she may have brought to the band's sound.)This is a powerful blues-rock set comparable to "Led Zeppelin II". A couple slow blues numbers foreshadow the style Webb later brought to Savoy Brown, when he joined them for the "Boogie Brothers" album. The cover songs are well done, especially the oft-covered "Goin' Down"--with Webb giving Jeff Beck a run for his money with his heavier, almost metal version.A must for guitar afficiandos.

Much in the same tradition as the great British bluesmen Alexis Corner and John Mayall, Webb's revolving-door personnel landed the band several notable members, including: John Almond (tenor/alto sax), Hughie Flint (drums), and Christine Perfect (keyboards/vocals). For this album, Webb (guitar/vocals) gathered a trio consisting of himself, future Gods and Jethro Tull member John Glascock (bass), and Paul Hancox (drums). Enthusiasts of the more traditional 40 Blue Fingers, Freshly Packed and Ready to Serve and OK Ken albums have been quick to dismiss the latter-era band, often citing the whole over amplified power metal trip as detracting from their blues origins. While certainly valid assessments, the power trio featured on Imagination Lady brings more than sheer volume to this release. As with the previous Chicken Shack long-players, this disc features several Webb originals augmented with some well-chosen cover tunes. The album opens with a ferocious cover of B.B. King's "Crying Won't Help You." This version is highlighted by Glascock's thrashing basslines and Webb's wah-wah driven lead guitar and gin-soaked vocals. In a style akin to the Faces or even some of the rowdier moments from the Peter Green-led Fleetwood Mac, this trio grinds out the blues with a decidedly English edge. The folkie "If I Were a Carpenter" is speared with searing electric guitar leads that rip throughout the likewise spirited contributions from Glascock and Hancox. The tune is also afforded an unexpected sensitivity that contrasts well between the all-out sonic onslaught of the chorus and the restrained polyrhythms of the verses. In regards to original material, "Daughter of the Hillside" is without a doubt Webb's most impressive contribution to the album. It is arguably the strongest side on the disc. This straight-ahead rocker is an ideal trio effort with equal contributions from all three recalling the intense instrumentality of Cream or early Led Zeppelin. With so much potential, it's unfortunate that the 11-minute epic "Telling Your Fortune" -- which is nothing more than a 12-bar blues platform for solos from Webb and Hancox -- is so erratic. In an ironic contrast, the closing number "The Loser" is upbeat and almost pop-oriented, again displaying the immense strength of this short-lived incarnation of Chicken Shack.

His compositions, marked by great suffering, as also his chorus, show a clear human face bad luck that seems to continue.

The last song is called "The Loser" and sings "I'm a loser, and I Always Will."

Prophetic? nothing is certain ... There is some evidence that this training had lasted one year before the new changes.

Chicken Shack is finally overwhelmed by the arrival of the wave Hard Rock and Progressive Rock.

Despite this record fabulous, it is shunned by the hype, more attracted to the glam and delusions-symphonic progressive. The group broke up and join fellow Webb Savoy Brown, Kim Simmonds of the group about to explode in the United States with a more Boogie, because some of its members are parties based Foghat.

In fact, it will never return to the top of the poster, and Webb will now hang up his guitar in pubs clubs and play his Blues for a handful of insiders.

Saudações amantes de boa música, primeiramente desejo a todos "Feliz 2012" e naturalmente com muito rock'n'roll! Bem, vocês gostam de Iron Maiden? (ha, ha, ha...); eu particularmente acho o único álbum dessa banda inglesa do final dos anos sessenta, uma grande peça de hard/heavy e blues rock (ha, ha, ...)!

Reza a lenda, que o Steve Harris (mentor e fundador da banda inglesa de heavy metal) em sua biografia, conta que certo dia atendeu a um telefonema e ouviu uma voz do outro lado da linha, falando num carregado sotaque de uma determinada região da Inglaterra, alertando-o que o processaria por estar usando o nome de sua original banda! E foi dessa forma que ele adquiriu os direitos autorais de usar o nome Iron Maiden!

E naturalmente eu não estou falando da banda inglesa de Metal (por sinal, fantástica), mas sim da original Iron Maiden, que na realidade nunca lançou um álbum, pois esse cd que aqui eu estou postando, é uma compilação de compactos discos, singles, etc. Espero que desfrutem esse fantástico hard/heavy blusey rock album!

The band was formed in 1964, Essex, England with musicians - Barry Skeels (bass and vocals), Steve Drewett (vocals and harmonica), Chris Rose (lead guitar) and Alan Hooker (batera.

In 1966 occurs the first exchange of musicians , passing Steve Drewett (vocals / harmonica), Chris Rose (lead guitar), Tom float (rhythm guitar), Stan Gillem (drums) and Barry Skeels (bass).

Esgrove In 1968 Graham (guitar) plays the guitar. Still new li-neup and the band initially believed to Bum, featuring the following musicians Steve Drewet (vocals & harmonica), Trevor Thoms (guitar / vocals), Barry skeletons (bass / vocals) and Paul Reynolds (drums / vocals); presented in some local pubs, getting a quick rebound and recorded an independent compact Ballad of Martha Kent / God of Darkness.

In late 1968 the band changed its name to Iron Maiden, exchange drummer who happens to be Steve Chapman in 1969 and signed a risk contract with Gemini Records, releasing in 1970, the compact Falling / Ned Kelly that follows a line psychedelic and progressive sound with heavy guitars and distorted.

The contract would be for 3 years if the disc was successful and the band performs a short tour in Australia. The song Falling draws attention, especially for its low ridden and some guitar riffs reminiscent of a certain band of the same name.

In 1970 drummer Paul Reynolds returns and that the band released two more singles: Liar / Ritual, DC Ryde / Plague.

The good results of the compact makes the band grow in the local underground, having opened shows for big bands like The Who and The Amen Corner.

In 1972, before the conclusion of his first LP, the band mysteriously goes out of business. The only thing you know, about the musicians, after the end of the band is the guitarist Trevor Thoms, passed by Hawkwind (?), Where bassist Lemmy would be just Killmister skeletons and bassist Barry played in a band called Zions .

Steve Harris, in his biography, says that someone with a different accent of English called him in 1976 and threatens to sue him for he is using this name.

In 1998 the compilation CD out called Maiden Voyage by Hi-Note Music label, who described the band as "Archetypal Doom Metal", with all the singles released, including the music of the time that the band was called Bum.

In the CD booklet, show them a contract with Gemini Records and some posters, as well as photos and concert tickets, proving that they came before the current Iron Maiden.

The 'A' side to Their sole 45 is a lengthy brilliant guitar-led piece with a solo well Beyond the length of the 1970 single.They Were known to burn up until January 1970 and in March of the year PM same they toured Australia.

The MC5 is an American rock band formed in Lincoln Park, Michigan and originally active from 1964 to 1972. The original band line-up consisted of vocalist Rob Tyner, guitarists Wayne Kramer and Fred "Sonic" Smith, bassist Michael Davis, and drummer Dennis Thompson. "Crystallizing the counterculture movement at its most volatile and threatening",according to Allmusic critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine, the MC5's far left political ties and anti-establishment lyrics and music positioned them as emerging innovators of the punk movement in the United States. Their loud, energetic style of back-to-basics rock 'n' roll included elements of garage rock, hard rock, blues rock, and psychedelic rock.

The MC5 had a promising beginning which earned them a cover appearance on Rolling Stone magazine in 1969 even before their debut album was released. They developed a reputation for energetic and polemical live performances, one of which was recorded as their 1969 debut album Kick Out the Jams. Their initial run was ultimately short-lived, though within just a few years of their dissolution in 1972, the MC5 were often cited as one of the most important American hard rock groups of their era. Their three albums are regarded by many as classics, and their song "Kick Out the Jams" is widely covered.

Tyner died of a heart attack in late 1991, aged 46. Smith also died of a heart attack, in 1994, also at the age of 46. The band reformed in 2003 with The Dictators' singer Handsome Dick Manitoba as its new vocalist, and this reformed line-up sometimes performs live.

In the wake of the Detroit riots of July 1967, the group relocated to the nearby college town of Ann Arbor. The following summer, MC5 appeared in Chicago at the Yippies' Festival of Life, a rally mounted in opposition to the Democratic National Convention, and in the audience was Elektra Records A&R executive Danny Fields, who signed the band a few months later. Their debut album, the classic Kick Out the Jams, was recorded live at the Grande Ballroom on October 30 and 31, 1968; although the album reached the national Top 30, retailers, including the Hudson's chain, refused to carry copies due to its inclusion of Tyner's trademark battle cry of "Kick out the jams, motherf*ckers!" The controversy spurred MC5 to run advertisements in the underground press reading "F*ck Hudson's!" Against the band's wishes, Elektra also issued a censored version of the album, replacing the offending expletive with "brothers and sisters."

For a band that never had a hit record, the MC5 were a pretty well documented outfit. This is even more amazing considering that such things as board tapes and home cassette recorders were both in their infancy at the time of these-and other- recordings. This collection of previously unreleased material varies widely in quality (none of it studio grade, unfortunately, but nothing here is unlist able), featuring four live recordings from the band's Grande Ballroom heyday, three instrumental runthroughs and the band track to "Looking At You," the group's second single. The emphasis throughout is on the band's experimental jamming tendencies, heard to its greatest effect on the 18 minute plus free association blues, "I'm Mad Like Eldridge Cleaver," featuring the sax noodlings of the group's manager, John Sinclair. While the live version of "Black to Comm" is a nice addition to the group's meager discography, this is a collection better enjoyed by hard core fans.

One of the more interesting (if not necessarily the most essential) of the posthumous MC 5 vault plunderings of the '90s, POWER TRIP is a rag-tag anthology of concert tapes, studio rehearsals, and outtakes, with a healthy offering of the band's (today rather quaint) political rhetoric (thank you, Brother Wayne Kramer). The bulk of the album is dedicated to some of the 5's more free-form numbers, including a few open-ended jams (like "Black to Comm") that were staples of their live show but never recorded officially. There's also a stupendously heavy version of the blues stanadard "Born Under a Bad Sign," plus the title tune, an early workup of the 10-years-ahead-of-its-time punk/funk/free-jazz fusion they later renamed "Skunk (Sonically Speaking)."

Si On Avait Besoin D'Une Cinquième Saison (If We Needed a Fifth Season), also known as Les Cinq Saisons (The Five Seasons), is the second album from Quebec band Harmonium, released in 1975.

The album marks a departure from the folk rock sound of Harmonium towards a unique progressive rock sound. Serge Fiori, Michel Normandeau and Louis Valois are joined this time by Pierre Daigneault and Serge Locat. Marie Bernard also provides her expertise for the Ondes Martenot, while Judi Richards sings in "Histoires sans paroles".

The album revolves around a seasonal concept; the first four songs each covers one of the traditional four seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn/Fall, and Winter), whilst the final track, the 17-minute long "Histoires Sans Paroles", represents the imaginary fifth season. "Dixie" is also a notable track because of Locat's unforgettable piano solo. Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison, while a transitional album, became an influential album in Quebec's music history.

Bootleg / Unauthorized originally recorded have traded copies of These tapes are a select group of Budgie fans over the years. (It's unfair That the members of the band do not get any royalties for These ... On the other hand if a quality bootleg CD is released, I think in many ways this is a bonus for the fans and in a roundabout way the promotion of Budgie.)
Undoubtedly, the had its designs and patterns were top shelf. Did not create the heavy-metal, but also led him to a higher level. Budgie not looking for success on the strength and perhaps because they did not find him. At least not disappointed. Respect for self, respect for the fans, respect for someone with whom they played. This was and is a Budgie.

O primeiro e unico album da banda chamado "Vol. 1" (lançado originalmente em 1973) acabou sendo reverenciado como um classico do proto-metal com toques de Heavy/Glam/Blues Rock, com os vinils originais sendo vendidos por pequenas fortunas.

O selo Rise Above Relics lançou esta detalhada re-edição, a qual foi feita com o consentimento e envolvimento dos membros da banda. Apresentando capas novas e originais com muitas fotos ineditas e notas bastante detalhadas sobre a historia da banda (as 40 paginas estao inclusas no post), este lancamento com certeza ira agradar os mais avidos colecionadores desse periodo.

Tudo minuciosamente remasterizado, e o melhor de tudo e' que eles conseguiram achar 4 musicas ineditas que ate entao se acreditavao perdidas, duas das quais eram pra fazer parte do suposto segundo álbum da banda que acabou sendo abortado antes de sua conclusão. Incredible Hog is a cult band for fans of underground British Rock and Prog of the early 70’s. Their Volume 1 album (originally released in 1973), has gone on be heralded as a cult classic of proto metal meets heavy glam/blues rock, with original vinyl copies demanding very high sums of money.

Rise Above Relics Records released this detailed reissue, which has been put together with the consent and involvement of the original band members. Featuring new and original artwork with many unseen photo’s and detailed sleevenotes (all 40 pages included here), this release is sure to please the most avid collectors of the period.

Fully and painstakingly remastered – the best news is that they have managed to locate the LONG LOST multitrack tapes for four unreleased tracks, two of which were intended for inclusion on the aborted second album – a Holy Grail indeed! These additional tracks just reinforce what a great band Incredible Hog actually were and how big they could/should have been!

This is edition is extremely hard to find on the net, especially in flac, so enjoy it!

Incredible Hog is a hard rock band from London, UK. They formed in 1970. Like so many early 70s bands, the three-piece London-based group Incredible Hog were a by product of the 60s British Blues Boom. In an attempt to mix melodic pop with heavy rock and intelligent, meaningful lyrics, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Ken Gordon and bassist Jim Holmes, who'd actually been at school together and played in the band Speed Auction, formed Incredible Hog in early 1972, the name actually being a play on the then highly popular 'Incredible Hulk' comic book series....
Well, I had the German pressing of their only album, released by Telefunken in 1973, and before I had the chance to listen to that record, I felt attracted by the whimsical cover artwork. In contrast to the UK pressing, that artwork was more controversial as well as the one of the French pressing. The best, though, is yet to come. When he put the needle on the record, I was immediately struck by the powerful and hard rockin' blues of the opening track 'Lame'. That was exactly the stuff I was looking for. Raw, heavy and mean. But not only 'Lame' blew me off my socks. The whole record has virtually electrified me.
INCREDIBLE HOG plays energetic and tight and the clear vocals of Ken Gordon forms a nice contrast to the subliminal aggressive sound. Furthermore it's obvious that he has talent, leading to the fact that his expressive style is one of the band's trademarks. In conjunction with his strong guitar work, the band proves impressively what it means to be a power trio. In addition, it was rather uncommon for heavy rock bands to integrate samples into their songs, but in true pioneering spirit and a clear sense of aesthetics, INCREDIBLE HOG were successful. Last but not least, these guys were good songwriters so that 'Volume 1' is packed with remarkably strong songs. Not to forget about the killer riffs.
Unfortunately it is not easy to track down an original copy of 'Volume 1' today. As is often the case with rare records, there are a couple of bootleg CD's floating around, but the quality is not always the best. And of course, not everybody can afford the LP, especially because it has increased in value over the last two decades. It is all the more welcome, therefore, that Rise Above Relics have decided to re-release 'Volume 1' in cooperation with INCREDIBLE HOG. Both parties did a very good job on this CD which means that 'Volume 1 + 4' is like a wet dream for INCREDIBLE HOG fans like me. And that is not only because of the highly informative booklet but also with regard to the four bonus tracks. This is a previously unreleased demo that has been recorded in March 1973. These songs were intended for the second album which unfortunately was never released.
Mixed and mastered from the original multi-track tapes, these four songs show just how much the band had already moved on in terms of natural feel and stunning energy. They did not accept compromise for the demo recordings, particularly 'Burnout' and 'Going Down' impress me with their raw metallic energy. 'Going Down' was originally recorded by Stan Webb's Chicken Shack (it's on their 1972 record 'Imagination Lady'), and it's my favourite Chicken Shack song, but INCREDIBLE HOG's version has a more aggressive approach. It was a good decision on the part of INCREDIBLE HOG to unearth this demo and I'm pretty sure that fans of the band will love it. Overall, this is a great disc to add to your collection, whether you're an old fan or someone who has recently discovered this almost forgotten band. 'Volume 1' stands a little more on it's own than many other similar albums of the time. It's fat, dirty, and very heavy.

Status Quo are one of Britain's longest-lived bands, staying together for over 40 years. During much of that time, the band was only successful in the U.K., where it racked up a string of Top Ten singles across the decades. In America, the Quo were ignored after they abandoned psychedelia for heavy boogie rock in the early '70s... Status Quo lie the roots of London... a group of Spectres, whose members were Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster. The band released three singles weakly adopted, before the changed style and started to play psychedelic rock, while changing its name to Traffic Jam. When released another single, which did not raise interest in listeners, , in August 1967 joined the band Rick Harrison, and the group changed its name again, this time to Status Quo.
Status Quo is a true legend of rock music, not just the British. Plates sold the team in total circulation of 112 million copies, and in the Top Ten UK charts were as many as 22 songs Status Quo. The specific sound collage of blues, country and rock fascinates,already the third generation of fans, and rock-men are far from the transition of musical retirement...hehehe so keep gentlemen!

Recorded, with perfect timing, just as Status Quo hit their live peak, 1977's double album Live is, contrarily, a timeless reminder of just how much power and excitement was bound up in the band through the mid-'70s -- and on, in fact, into the early '80s. It would be several years before the group turned into the faintly embarrassing cabaret singalong that scarred the latter years of their career, a fact that Live broadcasts via a picture-perfect snapshot of the last calm before that particular storm. Touring to support 1976's Blue for You (U.S. title Status Quo) album, the band is still reaching back to the dawn of the decade for material. "Junior's Wailing" and "In My Chair" both date back to the tentative days of 1970, as Status Quo prepared to slide from psych to boogie without knowing whether there was even an audience for such a shock. The fact that there was, of course, would be celebrated with some of the most visceral singles of the decade. "Roll Over Lay Down," "Rain," "Don't Waste My Time," and, most impressively, "Caroline" all slough off well-loved 45s, to be transformed into veritable show-stoppers, while the LP epics "Forty-Five Hundred Times" and "Roadhouse Blues" receive marathon workouts that all but defy gravity. Trago aqui mais um maravilha do rock que o tempo esqueceu (ou quase).
Um rockn' roll bem trabalhado, psicodelico e tambem com algumas passagens progressivas, pra quem gosta de alternacoes de guitarra e teclado esse qui e' um prato cheio.
E outra, com uma capa dessas so' pode ser coisa boa!
Infelizmente assim como tantas outras bandas de qualidade o Fuzzy Duck nao atingiu muito sucesso e acabaram se separando pouco depois. Seus integrantes fizeram parte de diversas bandas como Ten Years After, East of Eden, Maggie Bell, entre outros.

Another wonderful piece of RnR that time forgot (or almost did).
Great psychedelic sound with touches of progressive, if you like a good guitar/keyboard duels, this is the one for you.

First of all, you have to just love the cover, what great period artwork. It looks like something straight out of the San Francisco/Haight-Ashbury scene of the sixties. It's so totally hippie, you have to love it. The music is very advanced for its time. The sound quality is fair. If it was remastered once again and brightened up a bit the entire LP would be astounding. Regardless of my focus on detail regarding the sound, I think this was an excellent album. The best example of where this group was at formatively is the track "In Our Time." The entire album is exceptional, as are the bonus tracks. Comparisons with Camel and Wishbone Ash will be inevitable once you give this a really good listen. If you like driving guitars and the pumping Hammond organ, this will be your cup of tea. This is early prog-rock at its best.

The lengthy, two-part title track of this album forms a section of the Kohntarkosz cycle. Although first in order of release, it has now been formulated as the second part in a trilogy consisting of K.A. (Kohntarkosz Anteria) (2004), and Ëmëhntëhtt-Rê (2009).

Kohntarkosz, though lyrically sparer than any other lengthy Magma composition, presents through vivid, atmospheric music the tale of a modern archaeologist who discovers the tomb of an Egyptian pharaoh, Emehntehtt-Re. Emehntehtt-Re had devoted his life to a spiritual quest to understand the intimate workings of the universe and gain immortality, and though he had advanced close to his goal, had been murdered before the final attainment was made.

The music of Kohntarkosz, Part I describes the entry of the archaeologist into the tomb of Emehntehtt-Re, and his advancement slowly along the dark passage of the tomb, where he hears heavenly voices and receives visions of the ancient pharaoh's life. These visions culminate when he reaches the burial chamber and disturbs its dust, which seeps into his pores and gives him in a flash a complete understanding of all that the pharaoh had accomplished.

Kohntarkosz, Part II describes the waking of the archaeologist from his vision and his subsequent efforts to recapture and complete Emehntehtt-Re's understanding. Although incomplete at the time of studio recording in 1974, Kohntarkosz, Part 2 was capped with a soaring finale in live performances, as can be heard on the 1975 Live/Hhai.

The Kohntarkosz album marked a change in sound from Magma's previous album. The absence of chant brings it closer to more conventional jazz fusion, however the heavy bass and dark, ritual atmosphere identify it as clearly a Zeuhl album. (from Wikipedia)

Budgie - Welsh group was formed in Cardiff in 1967 Formed composed of bassist / vocalist Burke Shelley, guitarist Brian Goddard, drummer Ray Phillips and Budgie named Droppings, contested by the pastor, the musicians who make available a room for rehearsals. (Apparently the band name is taken from the television series.) History, however, denied that himself Burke Shelley in an interview with Only Rock magazine in 2004. Reportedly, the group initially called the Six Ton Budgie. In later years, under the same name performed original drummer Budgie - Ray Phillips. Soon the musicians joined by second guitarist Tony Bourge, and Goddard left the group. Originally inspired by the achievements of the band The Beatles, but soon began to strive to achieve a stronger wording in the style of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.
It seems to me that the budgie does not define the genre, but it is moving and can therefore still comparing them to Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. A similarities can not fail to notice (or rather hear) the band still has a lot of their great and original compositions and it is thanks to them it is commonly believed that the only ones able to compete with the giants of contemporary heavy music. Personally, this is one of my favorite bands of those years .. very nice to admit today that Poland was the exception in this regard, while appreciating the team in a timely manner and extent, mainly through invaluable radio station"Troika" Piotr Kaczkowski.
It's hard to believe today, but in 1982 a heavy rock band first broke the iron curtain ( was communism in Poland) and played concerts in my country, and in addition in Bydgoszcz my town, I remember this event well, the tickets were expensive, but people were so hungry the music, that tickets diverged in the blink of an eye. I' learned in school and not earning own money

Until 1971, he had an amateur status, performing in clubs in Wales. The breakthrough came when budgie recordings found their way into the hands of well-known producer Rodger Bain. 1) Guts
Composition Bourge / Shelley / Phillips, like everything on this record. Initially, the band sound like Black Sabbath. Riff is low, and so heavy. Vocals somewhat artificial, very expressive, anxious, uncertain. Instrumental parts are interesting, but the guitar solo is also afraid of freer solos. A song about the desire to understand and love in a partner. Why such a title? Probably the guy wants to hang on your partner and therefore has no eggs.
2) Everything In My Heart
Quick change of mood. The composition of the group. Curious, acoustic song. Burke of the vocals above the average. Text extremely simplified, the desire for love.
3) The Author
Introduction melancholy. Scorer Burke again. Great singing slow songs. After two minutes the machine starts to work. Burke, Robert Plant somewhat mimics. Guitarist produces blurred high-frequency sounds. The free and dynamic drums. Machine xylitol actually stops for a moment in the 4th minute to a minute to add potential rock and start a solo guitarist. Make the stuff up. It sounds interesting. The album is a nice mix of up-tempo, 70s style hard rockers and slower ballads. Overall, Piledriver is a very good mix of styles. All of the songs on what used to be side A (Don't Waste My Time, O Baby, Year, Unspoken Words) are great. Big Fat Mama and Paper Plane are also great. I can take or leave the bonus tracks that weren't on the original vinyl.
This album is a in my mind.

Trata-se de um show do Guru Guru na cidade de Wiesbaden, na Alemanha, gravado em setembro de 1973 e contendo uma versão extra-prolongada de 'Ooga Booga', do álbum 'Känguru'. As outras duas músicas eram do 'Don't Call Us - We Call You', o álbum mais recente da banda até então. Durante uma parte de 'Round Dance', Mani dançava em círculos no palco uma dança de uma tribo de índios norte-americanos enquanto Ax fazia a percussão.

Felizmente, o show foi gravado inteiramente por Muck Krieger, um amigo da banda, e as fitas permaneceram guardadas e conservadas durante todo esse tempo com ele e agora elas finalmente foram lançadas em CD. Sem dúvida, uma das maiores preciosidades do krautrock já registradas.

Here's one of Garden of Delights' most recent releases and which I managed to acquire an original copy for being a true gem from probably the best band of the whole krautrock scene. It is a Guru Guru concert in Wiesbaden, Germany, recorded in September 1973 and containing an overlong version of 'Ooga Booga', a track from 'Känguru' album. The two other tracks came from 'Don't Call Us - We Call You', their most recent album then. And during a part of 'Round Dance', Mani danced in circles on stage a dance of a North-American Indian tribe.

Fortunatly, the concert was entirely recorded by Muck Krieger, a friend of the band, and the tapes were kept untouched and conserved for all of this time and now they were finally released on CD. Undoubtely one of the greatest krautrock gems ever captured.

Stray were originally formed an amazing 45 years ago(1966) at a school in West London when four 14-year-old pupils decided to form a group. Calling themselves "Stray"
This live album was recorded in January 2002 at The Robin Hood RnB Club in Brierley Hill, West Midlands, UK (and released in March 2003 by Mystic Records). There's no question that this is a live recording. While not exactly muddy, there isn't the same kind of sonic clarity as on a studio release, there being a very boomy bottom end. It's like listening to a well recorded, but not terrifically recorded, bootleg. It does give a bit of the "you are there feel," however.
The set begins with a medley of songs that appear on the band's first, second, fourth and seventh studio albums; five of the remaining 9 tracks are from their 2001 release 10, being their tenth studio album. Their earlier material is fairly standard grooving rock, generally of the 4/4 variety. The first part of the medley "Come On Over" (from Mundanzas [1973]) transitions to "Take It Easy" (Houdini [1975]) so smoothly that it's not until the chorus kicks in that you notice the song has changed. There is a shift when "Nature's Way" (Suicide [1971]) takes over, as this piece is darker and heavier, as is "Only What You Make It," (Stray [1970]) which has a dash of punk energy to it. The medley closes off with "Houdini."
"After The Storm" adds a bit of blues-boogie to things, this piece sounding like a lively version of "Crossroads," Bromham even sounding a bit like Eric Clapton vocally, though there's an acidic sharpness to his guitar playing that's a little spicier than Clapton's. There's a nifty little bass line from Bootle snuck in there, simple, yet it draws attention before being joined by a guitar solo from Bromham. "Time Machine" has a big sound that is vaguely reminiscent of The Who (think "Pinball Wizard"). The playing style of original drummer Ritchie Cole, who played on the band's first album (where this track appears) was apparently like that of Keith Moon...
"Earth" on the other hand made me think for a moment of a blues-rock version of Judas Priest's "Livin' After Midnight." Bromham's guitar embellishments are a far cry from anything Priestly, however. Otherwise, this track is rocking rave up and Bromham truly quotes a snippet of the Stones' "It's Only Rock N' Roll" before launching into another fiery guitar solo. "I Believe It" is a chunky power ballad, that winds up being a little more proggy that one would expect, though in that near-proggy kind of way, by way of an extended guitar solo.
"The Rock" has what I call an expected anthemic drum rhythm ? boom, ba-boom, boom- boom, ba-boom, boom -- that to my ears is one part "Highway To Hell." While you won't mistake it for that track, once things get going, there is that same kind of energy. "Years?" is a bit different, at least initially, as it brings in a heavy, heavy metal rhythm and stomp to it, and yet the verses are phrased like those in "Midnight Rider" (Allman Brothers Band).
Live: In Yer Face is a pretty good live retrospective of Stray's material. Even if it doesn't, seemingly, include all their "hits," it does give the listener a good idea of what this band were and are about ? heavy rock and plenty of it. The live feel reveals the raw energy of the trio, such that you can hear that the band had a good time. Play loud !
If you like your rock music vital and loud, harking back to the days of Rory Gallagher, Cream, Wishbone Ash etc, then this album should bring tears to your eyes. Buy with confidence!

Grobschnitt foi uma das poucas bandas alemãs dos anos 70 que conseguiram algum reconhecimento notório e por isso, conseguiram também se manter na ativa por quase 20 anos. Apesar de ter surgido no âmbito do krautrock, o Grobschnitt é considerado como uma banda de progressivo sinfônico, apesar de conter elementos psicodélicos e experimentais, mas também tido injustamente como um clone alemão do Yes.

Já no primeiro álbum - que foi um dos primeiros lançamentos da lendária Brain Records - a banda incluiu duas suítes compostas basicamente da mesma maneira que o progressivo sinfônico tradicional.

Totalmente imperdível e tão bom quanto os grupos ingleses e italianos.

ENGLISH:
Grobschnitt was one of the few 70s German bands which managed to get some visible recognizement and consequently they could also stay active for about 20 years. In despite of having emerged from the krautrock scene, Grobschnitt is considered as a symphonic progressive band, although it has some psychedelic and experimental elements, and also unfairly considered as German clone of Yes.

Already on their first album - which was one of the very first releases by legendary Brain Records label - the band included two suites basically composed in the same way of traditional progressive symphonic.

Totally recommended and as good as English and Italian groups.

Upon first listen, Orange Goblin's interestingly named Frequencies From Planet Ten was a remarkably professional-sounding debut, but a closer look quickly revealed that the band's sonic identity was still maturing. Opener "The Astral Project" serves as their de facto resumé, covering the band's entire stylistic repertoire, including doomy riffs, psychedelic melodies, spacey jams, stoner grooves, and even, occasionally, jazzy accents. Most of the songs that follow revisit these elements -- all of them -- at once! And that's where the boys' bluff is called. While they obviously worked their butts off trying to please all the camps, the disc's best songs are usually those where they stop trying to be so damn eclectic and just get down to some serious head banging. For proof, check out the killer intro and minor chord perfection of "Land of Secret Dreams" (arguably the album's best offering) and the all-out pummeling of the excellent "Aquatic Fanatic." They also have a little fun exploring their healthy fetish for J.R.R. Tolkien on tracks like "Saruman's Wish" and "Lothlorian," as well as their very name, of course. All things considered, this was a solid first effort, and while they would subsequently suffer the expected growing pains, Orange Goblin was on their way to bigger and better things
What matters here is that FFPT is well-composed, tight, well-played and genuinely interesting. The guitars sound just as terrifyingly heavy as they should, Ben Ward's vocals is the band's trademark right from A to Z and, all in all, anyone who gets to listen to this will have a good time. Rome wasn't built in one day and sure as hell only few can boast that reinvented the wheel when it comes to heavy rock. To-do list? Heavy riffs -tick. Lyrics under the influence -tick. Testosterone-freak vocals -tick. Impression that the next album would kick ass -three ticks.

Apesar de ter se tornado uma banda de heavy metal, o Faithful Breath surgiu originalmente como uma banda de progressivo sinfônico cujas letras eram pessimistas e que eram combinadas a um som de atmosfera pesada. A banda surgiu em 1967 na cidade de Bochum, na Alemanha, com o nome de The Magic Powers e após ter passado por diversas formações, a banda finalmente conseguiu lançar seu primeiro álbum em 1974, ainda que em um número bastante limitado de cópias.

Várias bandas alemãs se tornaram adeptas à vertente sinfônica do rock progressivo - ao invés de somente do que é chamado de krautrock - e este aqui é mais um exemplo da qualidade desse estilo naquela país.

In despite of having become a heavy metal band afterwards, Faithful Breath originally arose as symphonic progressive band whose lyrics were pessimist and which were combined to a heavily atmospheric sound. They formed back in 1967 in Bochum, Germany, under the name The Magic Powers and after having suffered a constant change of line-ups, the band finally managed to release their first album in 1974, although in a very limited number of copies.

Many German bands followed the symphonic tides of progressive rock - instead of just sticking to what is called krautrock - and this is another high quality example of how that style was accomplished on that country.

Logo no primeiro álbum, você já nota que a banda já tinha se firmado em um estilo inconfundível que mesclava elementos do proto-prog, do folk, da psicodelia e da música irlandesa. High Tide is already a known band over here in the brothel, but only now we finally managed to find a high resolution digital transcription from their first album, which can be undoubtely considered as one of the best and most original albums from the late 60s.

Right on their first album, you can realise that the band brought in their own and unmistakable style which offered a blend of elements from proto-prog, folk, psichedelia and even from Irish music. It is also quite heavy for a prog band, that's why nowadays they are referenced as one of the precusors of heavy metal and prog metal.

Salve, salve amantes do bom e insubstituível rock'n'roll!; mais uma vez como bom amante do maravilhoso hard rock setentista, eu trago para vocês mais uma pérola obscura, dentre tantas outras que surgiram (para o nosso deleite) durante os incomparáveis anos setenta!

Vindos todos de uma mesma cidade, esses cinco ítalo-americanos nos presentearam com um excellente hard rock "bluseado", que na minha opinião não deixa nada a desejar se comparado a outros álbuns feitos nessa época! Espero que desfrutem!

In 1972 five Italian-Americans from Buffalo, NYC, got together to produce this great album for Capitol, only to drop off the radar soon after without a trace - a true loss because Two Sided Fantasy is immediately convincing, both for its freshness and the originality of the material presented.

In the liner notes, the band members indicate their various musical influences, which include Zeppelin, Cream, Winter, the Allman Brothers, Ravi Shankar (!), Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, and George Harrison…not bad.

Perhaps the best inspiration of Johnny Winter, can be heard in the tracks “Everybody Knows (Slippin’)”, “Doin’ What I Want” or “Creepy Feeling”.

A rewarding rediscovery; an undiscovered gem. This rare 1972 Capitol release was reissued on CD by Akarma in 2003.
